Disappointing Products Revisited

After having a rummage through my collection (forever trying to streamline!), I put aside a few products which were, for one reason or another, disappointing. Before tossing or donating them, I decided to give them all one last chance on my face; here’s how I got on.

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer. This was once a favourite of mine, but recently it’s more disappointing than anything. Maybe my skin has changed over the years, but I find that this primer does nothing to make my make up look better or last longer.

BareMinerals Powder Foundation Matte (Fairly Light). Again, I used to love this product. It was my everyday base for a few years but for some reason I stopped using it. I repurchased it last year in a more suitable shade to see if I still liked it. At first I did, but after a while I stopped using it again. After trying it today, I’m not sure why. I still like it. It doesn’t cover all of my blemishes but the finish is really nice.

Freedom Brow Pomade (Caramel). Maybe I’m just terrible at filling in my brows with anything other than a Brow Wiz style pencil, but my brows looked terrible and slug-like after using this. The colour is alright for me (I have auburn hair naturally) but I just don’t get along with this. The Duo Brow Powder is much better in my opinion.

Kiko Single Smart Shadows in 02 & 11. I bought these shades to use as eyeshadows (obviously) but there is so little pigment to them than it’s pointless trying to work with them; there is zero payoff on the eyes. BUT, i often use 11 as a cheek highlight. It’s a soft pink/purple shimmery formula which gives a daytime-appropriate subtle glow.

BareMinerals Warmth Bronzer. I’ve never been sure about this product, yet I keep coming back to it to test it again. I think it’s slightly too dark for my skin tone so I have to be very light handed. It works well to warm up the complexion but doesn’t stick around long for me. Probably one to give away.

Ciate X Olivia Palermo Blush/Bronzer Duo (Bluff Point). I’m not sure what it is about this product but I never reach for it. It’s not bad at all, the colours are nice, they’re reasonably pigmented and the packaging is beautiful but it just doesn’t do it for me.

Kiko 3-in-1 Eyeshadow & Eye Pencil. I love Kiko in general, it’s a fantastic brand but this duo pencil is terrible. The pink cream eyeshadow is a horrible colour, and doesn’t really work as a base for others either. The deep purple eyeliner is actually quite nice but it’s the type which sets immediately and is hard to remove. This kind of eyeliner isn’t good for me – I’m not great at eyeliner!

Elizabeth Arden Eyeshadow Trio (Violet Bloom). Oh My God. This is the worst eyeshadow I’ve ever used. There is no pigment to these shadows, even with the darkest shade. I spent ages trying to build this up to something, but honestly It’s not really worth it. Save your money.

Maybelline Great Lash Big Mascara. This was once my holy grail mascara. I’ve probably repurchased this five times or more over the years but it just doesn’t do it for me anymore. The Clinique High Impact Mascara has ruined all others for me; so many mascaras just completely disappoint me now.

NYX Lipstick Lingerie (Bedtime Flirt). This product was so hyped last year so I snapped one up when I saw it in Boots. The only reason this is disappointing is that I’m just not a huge fan of liquid lipsticks. I have a few in my collection but rarely wear them. I much prefer a regular matte lipstick. I do like the finish of this but it’s not something which I could wear all day.
